ABSTRACT

Today, the rapid advancement of technology has enabled advanced software for engineering and design fields to emerge. Textile and clothing design and production processes can be made more efficient as in other industrial fields by using computer-aided design (CAD) software. There are CAD technologies developed to facilitate users’ work at every stage of the production process, from yarn to finished product for textile and clothing design, and even to the marketing stage. Several digital design programmes are used more and more widely by the industry. In this study, it has been tried to compare traditional design and production techniques with computer-aided design and production systems. First of all, CAD technologies used by the fashion and textile industry were reported, their advantages and application areas were evaluated. To evaluate the performance of the software, fabric printing and womenswear designs were made. For this purpose, fabric, printing, pattern, two-dimensional and three-dimensional dressing software were used. The production of designed products has also been carried out. At the end of the study, real clothing designs and virtual designs were compared in terms of fabric design, pattern making, two dimensional and three-dimensional dressing and fit control. The effects of CAD systems on the fabric and garment design cycle from conceptual design to the finished product have been studied. In terms of fabric and print design, very successful, realistic results have been obtained. Some differences have been found between dressing applications on virtual mannequins and real products. There have been problems in the dressing applications of some patterns. However, it has been determined that all these programmes can be used successfully and reliably in fabric, print and clothing design.
