ABSTRACT
Considering the concept of fashion and ugliness on the same agenda may seem like an unusual idea at first glance, because the fact that fashion, which is positioned at the center of consumption with the modern world, is mentioned side by side with the ugly is a thought quite contrary to its inherent nature. When it is considered that the fashion is close to the understanding of the beauty of the period and even is a factor on the creation of the beautiful with aesthetic concerns since its emergence, it is an undeniable fact that the "ugliness", which is positioned as the exact opposite of "beauty", exists in one form or another in fashion (as it exists in other fields of art).
At this point, it is possible to look at the concept of ugliness from a thematic and visual perspective. While the extraordinary looks lead us to talk about the concept of ugliness subjectively, this concept can be a conscious mental attitude that is desired to be reflected in the design in thematic terms.
This study is a qualitative research type that will examine ugliness as a "concept" and question how fashion designers approach this concept. In this way, by revealing how the concept of ugliness can be viewed from the field of fashion design, it is aimed to give a guiding value to the minds on the way to search for the new and different.
