ABSTRACT
The importance of warp knitting products that we use in many different areas from home textiles to clothing, from the final product to the byproduct, increases with the different and superior features from other fabric production techniques. In order for the designer to serve the warp knitting sector, has to know the abilities of machines. Therefore, warp knitting is a creative field where technical knowledge and aesthetic skills are combined. Design quality and the development of new products are the most important factors for the companies to maintain their presence in the international competition conditions of the textile sector. There is a need for designers to develop new qualities and patterns in this area. However, there is no training program suitable for the training of designers in the warp knitting sector.
Purpose of the research is to draw attention to the importance of training the designers in the field of warp knitting. Within the scope of the research, the design processes of the warp knitting and opportunities offered by the production technique to the designer also examined within the scope of the research. The existence of theoretical and practical courses on warp knitting technique in academic institutions providing textile design education has examined. The research, in which qualitative method has been adopted, has been formed with the idea of developing textile design education programs to enable textile designers to be active in warp knitting design. In the conclusion section, issues that prevent theoretical and applied design education for warp knitting area has determined. In the understanding of classical education, suggestions have been made to overcome these obstacles. With an alternative approach, it is concluded that the most suitable training model for warp knitting design education is the on-site learning model which is created by sector and university cooperation.
