A yacht, in essence, is a type of watercraft mainly used for leisure activities such as travel, recreation, and relaxation and can be divided into its sub-categories. The first of the characteristics to determine this categorization is the yacht's means of propulsion, which leaves us broadly classifying them as sailing yachts and motoryachts. Whilst all yachts fall into these two types, they can also be categorized more specifically based on their sizes, manufacturing materials and hull design. As is the case with all watercraft, the materials and techniques used in the manufacturing of yachts were refined concurrently with the advancement of technology. Consequently, new methods of manufacturing hulls were developed, and one of these innovations included the design of multi-hulled watercraft. Multihulls can be divided into three categories; catamaran (twin-hulled), trimaran (triple-hulled) and pentamaran (quintuple-hulled). Most of today's multihull designs were inspired by the sailboats and rowboats used by the indigenous peoples of maritime nations. As such, the multihull boats used by Polynesian natives are seen as the predecessors of today's catamarans. Monohull and multihull designs differ in terms of their handling and performance, which can be an advantage or a disadvantage depending on the personal preferences of their users. The first subject of discussion in this study is the differences between monohull and twin-hulled yachts, followed by a thorough investigation of the properties of both designs and the analysis of their effects on interior yacht design and living spaces. As sailing yachts provided more room for scrutiny, the comparisons conducted in this study are based on sailing yachts. The reasoning behind this specific sample size of 12 to 14 meter yachts is because the designs in this category are fit for mass production and are among the classification of watercraft with the largest market share. The goal of the study is to determine the criteria of the interior design of yacht type vessels with differing hull designs through a comparison of selected samples.
