Her dönemin ve her toplumun farklı beden algısı, farklı beden tanımı olduğu ve bu beden algılarının zaman ve mekanla değiştiği, geliştiği, yeni özelliklerle donatıldığı söylenebilir. Foucault, modern iktidar kavramını tanımlarken, onun bedenle ilişkisine odaklanır. Modern bedenin oluşumunu ve sahip olması gereken nitelikleri açıklar, biyo-iktidar kavramı ile insan bedeninin iktidar tarafından değiştirilmesini anlatır. Foucault disipliner modern iktidarın bedeni kontrol ve tahakküm altına alıp onu pasifleştirdiğini, Baudrillard ise, bedenin güzellik ve erotizmle dolu kült bir nesneye dönüştürüldüğünü söyler. Barbie bebekler, modern iktidarın empoze ettiği modern beden tanımının yansıması denebilir. Bu çalışma ile modern topluma ait değişen beden algısını popüler kültür ürünü ve ikonu, aynı zamanda bir Amerikan simgesi olan Barbie bebekleri üzerinden okumak amaçlanmaktadır. Ayrıca ilk üretimin yapıldığı 1959 yılından günümüze olan süreçte bu bebeklerin beden, giysi ve yaşamlarındaki değişimlerin, modern dünyanın çok kültürlü ve çok kimlikli yapısı ile bağı kurulurken bu bağın bir reklam stratejisine dönüştürülmesi durumu ise politik doğruculuk kavramından hareketle Barbie ve Mattel’in Instagram paylaşımında kullanılan görseller üzerinden ele alınacak, analiz edilecektir. Modern iktidarın tanımladığı modern beden algısı ile uyumlu olan Barbie bebeklerin, öncelikle yalnızca kadın olarak üretildiği, sonrasında tüm toplumsal cinsiyet kimliklerini kapsayacak şekilde üretimin genişletildiği görülmektedir. Barbie ve arkadaşlarının bedenlerinin, giysilerinin, dininin, etnik kimliğinin, ten renginin de toplumsal değişim ekseninde değiştiği, çeşitlendiği ve bu değişimin de Instagram platformu aracılığı ile yansıtıldığı saptanmıştır.

While defining the modern concept of power, Foucault focuses on its relationship with the body. He explains the formation of the modern body and the qualities it should have. It can be said that Barbie dolls are the reflection of modern definition of the body, imposed by modern power. This study’s aim is to understand the changing body perception of modern society through the American pop culture product and icon, the Barbie doll. Additionally, the changes in the body, clothing and life of these dolls in the process from the first production in 1959 to the present day. While establishing a connection with the multicultural and multi-identity structure of the modern world. The situation of transforming this bond into an advertising strategy is evident by the visuals used in the Instagram sharing of Barbie and Mattel; based on the concept of political correctness. All these topics will be discussed and analysed. It can be seen that Barbie dolls, which are compatible with the modern body perception defined by the modern power, were first produced as women only, and later the production was expanded to include all gender identities. It has been determined that the bodies, clothes, religion, ethnic identity and skin color of Barbie and her friends also change and diversify on the axis of social change, this change is reflected through the Instagram.
