ABSTRACT

Human beings are intertwined with nature, the struggle for existence and sovereignty against nature has been an ongoing action since its inception. The only reason for this action is to direct it with a dominant attitude towards nature. The scientific and technical skills developed in this process are the important factors that make up the dominance of man on nature. Industrial organizations that emerged with the Industrial Revolution brought about the problem of waste that is harmful to human and nature. The universalization of the waste problem attracted the attention of the artists and paved the way for expressing their reactions to the problem in a different way of expression. Ecological Art has been an activist and stimulating attitude since the late 1960s, allowing the relationship between man and nature to be viewed from a different perspective. Ecological art projects are artistic projects aimed at raising human environmental awareness and protecting nature and the natural. The wastes generated by the industrialization reach the seas and oceans through the rivers. This article aims to examine the projects that aim to give a social message with a universal understanding of the expressions of designs and artworks consisting of ocean wastes extracted from various coasts of the world. Particular attention will be given to the fact that waste is a universal problem. Since it has the status of giving a message at the center of this understanding of art, an open view is adopted for all art disciplines. As a result of the examination of artistic projects realized by artists from different countries of the world, it was concluded that art contributes greatly to the creation of ecological environmental awareness, the formation of new forms of expression in art and society, and the universal language of art is a useful element in the expansion of the impact area of the projects.
