ABSTRACT

Ceramic, which has been used in many different fields for centuries, is glazed after being shaped, dried and fired to increase its suitability for food and increase its strength. Glaze is a pine-like compound created with recipes prepared using different raw materials. It is known that glaze recipes emerged as a result of random developments. The majority of the materials that make up the glaze structure are organic raw materials found in nature. Unconscious use of natural resources due to increasing production and consumption habits has led to a decrease in raw materials, and therefore, recycling practices have gained importance. Today, recycling applications are encountered in the ceramic industry, and the re-evaluation of the wastes gives an important added value to the certificate. In the research, the effects of egg shells in the body were investigated by using the egg shells in the glaze, and a recycling application was planned by using waste egg shells. Egg has a great place in our daily life as a food material in terms of containing the nutrients needed by the human organism. Eggs, which are consumed at a high rate in our daily life, produce a high amount of waste in their shells. It is known that egg shells are used as a fertilization method in agriculture by passing different experiments, and it is also used in medical and cosmetic fields. Considering that the mineral richness in the egg shell is high, it was thought that artistic glazes could be applied by using it as a raw material in the glaze. In the research, the effects of egg shell and its use as a colorant were investigated. The results of the experiments, which were fired in a ceramic furnace at 1150oC using a certain amount of egg shell and melter, were observed. In the aim of the study, the evaluation of the wastes of the egg shells used is discussed and it is aimed to contribute to the studies and literature with ceramic glazes.
