ABSTRACT

The aim of this research is to determine which criteria are highlighted by individuals working in the furniture industry regarding the effects of the fasteners they use in furniture designs on their design preferences and to what extent they attach importance to them. The main hypothesis of the research focuses on the differences between the reasons for preferring domestic and imported fasteners used in furniture designs. The survey developed for this purpose was applied online to 142 participants working in the field of furniture design using the Google Forms interface. Cronbach Alpha reliability tests were performed on the data obtained from the surveys, frequency numbers and percentage values were calculated, and the differences between the participants' domestic and foreign fastener preferences were evaluated using chi square test and single analysis of variance. According to the analysis results, it is seen that 78.7% of the participants learned about the new fasteners from the companies' websites and 76.8% of them use domestic and imported fasteners. In addition, it was determined that participants preferred domestic fasteners because they were easily accessible (85.4%), while they preferred imported fasteners because of their material quality (75%), durability (70.6%) and longevity (66.2%). As a result, knowing the effects of domestic and imported fasteners on design preferences by the furniture industry will positively reflect on the product quality of domestic manufacturers in the subsequent processes and increase customer satisfaction.
