ABSTRACT

Bach’s Solo Sonatas and Partitas for violin are perceieved as a milestone of violin education and indispensable in every violinist’s repertoire. Distinguished by their polyphonic structure and musical depth, these works include considerably difficult techniques. Especially the ‘’fugue’’ movements of sonatas might be regarded as the most exhausting parts for the performer. Intense usage of chords and double stops are issues which have to be dealed with thoroughly. In order to solve these problems even some alternative approaches have emerged such as production of specially designed bows which was introduced by some violinisits. Altough from time to time different approaches and experiments may have been tried on solving problems in Bach’s intensely poliphonic works, the preliminary requirement is to establish a substantial technical base. For this reason, practising etudes would provide the greatest aid for violinists. J. Dont’s op.35 ‘’Etudes and Caprices’’ are works which definitely must be practised regarding their technical concept that cover the most necessary elements for g minor fugue. The etudes which utilize chords and double-stops in a broad sense would help developing violin technique. Dealing with the fugue after having practised these etudes would releive the practising process.
