ABSTRACT
This study is based on the Applied Art Research (Practice-based Research) methodology, aiming to reinterpret the cultural heritage of Anatolian civilizations within a contemporary context. The primary objective is to demonstrate how the traditional materials and motifs derived from the art and handicrafts of Anatolian civilizations can be reproduced and integrated into contemporary art practice and design language. The core of the research centers on my (Tamer Aslan), as the artist-researcher, long-standing leather works, which include research-driven cultural reproductions and original productions. Recently, these productions have been combined with the Tiffany stained glass technique, creating a new aesthetic and technical field of expression. The adopted practice-based research approach allows the art production process to be treated not only as a creative endeavor but also as an academic research object. The unique and culturally reproductive works realized with contrasting materials and textures, such as leather and Tiffany stained glass, make the aesthetic values of the past visible again through contemporary material and expression possibilities.
The findings, reached through the systematic study of the art production process, indicate that the leather and glass combination serves not only as a material interaction but also as a vehicle for cultural transmission. By bringing together the separation of small "r" (personal exploration, material experiments) and big "R" (systematic documentation, academic knowledge production), the study reveals both the individual and academic dimensions of art practice. The original contribution of this work is the creation of a new technical and aesthetic language of expression by bringing different materials together in a contemporary context. The research moves beyond documenting art production; it offers a methodological model for the reproduction of Anatolia's multilayered cultural heritage within the context of contemporary art and design, thus paving a new way for interdisciplinary art practice.
