Türk Dil Kurumu sözlüğünde, “Bulunulan çağın anlayışına, şartlarına uygun olan, çağcıl, uygarca, asri, modern” olarak tanımlanan çağdaş kelimesi, sanat alanında yapılan üretimleri tanımlamak için sıkça kullanılan bir terimdir. Bu metnin konusu olan Çağdaş Sanat Koleksiyonlarının izlenebileceği kurumlar arasında müzeler ve sanat merkezleri, sanat dünyası için önemli mekânlardır. Bu metinde amaç, sanat müzeciliğinin geçmişinde önemli bir yer tutan Avrupa’da son yüzyılda açılmış, sanat merkezi ve müzeleri arasından bir seçki oluşturmak ve bunların resim koleksiyonlarını incelemektir. Metin, Avrupa’da bulunan çağdaş sanat kurumlarının resim koleksiyonları çerçevesinde daraltılan bir seçki bağlamında, pek çok eser arasından, geleceğe yön veren ve çeşitli sanat kitaplarında sıkça adı geçen sanatçı ve yapıtları kapsamaktadır. Çağdaş Sanat Müzesi adı altında 19.yüzyıl’da kurulmuş ve açılmış birçok önemli müze vardır ancak burada odaklanılmak istenen dönem, 2018 yılına dek içinde bulunulan son bir yüzyıldır. Yöntem olarak, metinde birçok farklı kaynakta sözü edilen ve ön sıralarda yer alan seçkin kurumların son yüzyıla yön veren resim koleksiyonlarına odaklanılmaktır. Birçok akım ve oluşumun gerçekleştiği 20.yüzyıl, çeşitli malzemelerin denenmesine ve resimden farklı türlere yönelinmesine tanıklık eden bir çağdır. Kolaj kullanımından başlayarak son yüzyıl sürecinde farklı açılımlar kazanan sanatsal yönelimler performanslar, yerleştirmeler, video sanatı ve diğer sanatsal deneyimler temelde resim sanatından ve görsel kültürden kaynaklanan açılımlardır. Ele alınan on kurumun koleksiyonlarındaki resimler, farklı malzemelerin kullanımıyla bağlantılı olarak günümüze dek oluşan deneyselliği ve çeşitliliği arttırmaları açısından önemli bir yere sahiptirler. Metnin okuyucuda bırakması istenen etki, açılış tarihleri doğrultusunda zamandizinsel bir yaklaşımla ele alınan kurumların (Avrupa kıtasındaki çeşitlilik içerisinde) diğer sanat kurumları arasında neden öne çıktıklarının anlaşılmasıdır.

In the Turkish Language Institution, contemporary vocabulary, which is defined as "appropriate to the understanding of the present age and its conditions, contemporary, civilized, modern" is a term frequently used to describe the works made in the field of art. Among these institutions, which the Contemporary Art Collections can be watched, museums and art centers are important places for the art world. The aim of this text is to create a selection of art centers and museums opened in Europe in the last century which has an important place in the history of art museums and to examine their painting collections. In the context of a selection narrowed down on the frame of the art collections of contemporary art institutions in Europe, the text includes artists and works that are frequently mentioned in various art books, among many works. There are many important museums established and opened in the 19th century under the name of the Museum of Contemporary Art, but the period to be focused here is the last century until 2018. As a method, the focus is on the last century's art collections of distinguished institutions, which are mentioned in many different sources in the text. The 20th century, in which many movements and formations take place, is an age of witnessing the trials of various materials and orientations other than the painting. In the last century, artistic orientations, which start from the use of collage, have won different expansions, performances, installations, video art and many other artistic orientations are the formations and reforms mainly involved in painting art and visual culture. The paintings in the collections of the ten institutions concerned have an important place in terms of enhancing the diversity and experimentation that has occurred so far in connection with the use of different materials. The effect of the text on the reader is to understand why the institutions (in the diversity of the European continent), which were handled in a timely manner in line with their opening dates, stand out among other art institutions.
